After completing our 3-year EveryPsalm project, we wanted to get back into the New Testament. We felt called to compliment two of our pre-existing projects - Firstborn, which tells the story of Jesus’ birth, and Golgotha, which tells the story of Jesus’ final hours on earth - but we were unsure how to take on the task. We needed a framework that would incapsulate the whole of Jesus’ life, without singing verse by verse by through the gospels. That’s when Leah had the idea to use the prophetic fulfillment passages in Matthew. As a writer, Matthew takes great time and care showing his readers how Christ fulfilled all that was written about him in the Old Testament. So each time it says something like ‘this was done to fulfill what was said by the prophet…’ these verses became the foundations for each song. In the end, three albums were written. Part 1 brings us Jesus’ birth, his flee to Egypt, and return to Nazareth. Part 2 covers from his baptism and temptation to the transfiguration. And Part 3 takes us from Jesus’ triumphal entry to his death and resurrection. We hope these recordings can be a blessing to you!
Note: As always, we’ve done our best to sing the scriptures, drawing from both the old and new testament throughout the work as we explore these moments in Jesus’ life. With that, we’ve created a lyric document that contains the base scriptures that were used, as well as any other passages we worked with in each song. If you’re interested in reading the lyrics and exploring other biblical passages, you can download that document on the listen page.
